1. paint scheme, to match as closely as possible the comic.
2. shoulder reversal - the left and right shoulders were swapped so that the hole would be on the left shoulder allowing attachment of a truncheon-like weapon seen in the comics.
3. head - I wasn't sure what to do exactly for the head so I borrowed this idea from prowlpants version, trimming down the sides and inserting a thin piece of plastic for the fin.
4. shoulder cannon. I basically hacked off the water gun from G2 megs and the sights fron above it and placed the sights where the cannon was.
5. right fist. the hand was removed and a sculpted plastic rod attached in its place.
6. weaponry. the yellow mace is one of nosecones missiles and the gun is from skyhopper, although groundshakers seems also adequate.
So there we have it, the finished version. He only took me about 5 hours work in total so I'm pleased with the result seeing as it's my first custom and all. The vehicle mode is supposed to be some kind of siege tank I guess. It looks a little front heavy due to the shoulder reversal but is still bristling with weaponry. I'd like to add an autobot symbol to the recess in the abdomen at some point, and the paint job could be better, but I think this adds to the veteran look of impactor, the fearless leader of the wreckers. Also I was tempted to do another custom using the G2 green megatron tank so that impactor would tower over other G1 toys such as roadbuster like he did in the comics. I don't think however that the green megs would be as well suited to the custom due to his fists and shoulder cannon etc so chose not to pursue it.
I have just finished an alternator prowl custom based on an aspen white subaru WRX which I will post sometime soon. Am also toying (no pun intended) with the idea of custom sunstreaker from dead-end but will wait and see if they actually make one first. Other future projects I have in mind are a custom emirate xaaron from an old perceptor body and a custom rack n ruin from 2 old twin twists.
Hope everyone enjoys the photos as I think it is a nice homage to one of the best characters from the British comics, one truly deserving of a toy incarnation.
P.S. Does anyone know where I can get more avatars than the ones on offer at TFans a I'd love one of bluestreak. Am sure I've been to a site with loads more.
