Six piece CL Devastator now w/ treads on Bonecrusher

I have another side project I'm starting on what number is this one? Um like 5 or 6 at least. Any way I have drilled a hole where the Dcon emblem was on Scavenger's stomach for the Energon star port on E Demolishor/Longhaul to plug into. This is just step one. Next will be to give treads to the one loader turning it into a bulldozer, and adding a cement barrel to the crane arm of one of the cranes. Should have worn my Kevlar glove though cause the drill bit nicked the back of my left middle finger. Oh well it could have been much worse. I'll get back to work on my Predaking Monday, and Tuesday.

Yep the core left arm and left leg are all from the Classics Dev. I picked him up at Wal-mart yesterday morning. I do plan on having a G1 styled chest piece on the top part of the tracks. But I'm not going to use the original one since it is way too wide and would block what little poseability he has. I'm also going to try to figure out a way to mistransform the arms to make them more poseable like with Superion, and Bruticus. Once I finish with him I'll be able to do a fight between Devastator and Superion like in the Transformers Generation One graphic novel. I'm also planning on giving him a set of actual hands.

Got tired of the stupid looking head Hasbro left on this mold so I decided to rebuild the face to look the way it should have. Only a couple more alterations to do and Devastator will be complete. However first I will get back to work on Predaking.

Wowsers! Thats just what I wanted to do!

Do you call the green hooky one "Hook" instead of what ever Hasbro mislabled it?

btw: some step by step instructions would be much appreciated please!

And its not so much mislabeling as the fact that Hasbro can't Trademark "Hook" Thus they had to use something else. Just like they can't use "Jazz" anymore. The terms are to common. But thats why I jsut rename all the characters I feel need it once I get them.

Actually I thought they were using the name Jazz in the movie. Any way thanks for the compliments. As for a step by step the face was a real pain in fact I'm probably going to go in tomorrow and sand it some more to try and smooth it out some. Basically I used my Dremel cutting disc to remove the main face plate and then proceeded to hack the face into the rest of the black area of the face that was there with an X-acto knife. Carving it until it was the depth that I wanted leaving a pronounced chin just like G1 Dev. Then I cut a hole in the face where I placed the nose. For a few minutes the face looked like a skull face. I then took a small piece of square styrene rod and cut it down into the shape of the vent on his head, and used my Dremel cutting disc to make a place for it. I then proceeded to use my cutting disc to cut the head into the shape of the G1 head, and filled in the hollow spots with testor's super glue since I couldn't find my contour putty at that moment, and glued the vent in place. Then I took a piece of rectangular styrene tubing and cut it at an angle, and that way I had two shots at the nose(one from each side). I cut the nose out of one of the angle cut sides of the styrene tube and cut it and shaped it until it looked like a nose then I glued it into the spot I had carved out for the nose. then I sanded the face as smooth as I could and painted it. Which showed me just how rough it still was so I'm going to sand it down again. It still even as rough as it is looks way better than the oxygen mask he was wearing. I'll have to measure the size tubing I used for the chest plate connection in the morning right now I'm heading to bed.

Oh and PC to answer your question yes the crane that is remaining a crane is going to be Hook, and the crane that will become a cement mixer is going to be Mix Master, while the loader for the arm will be getting treads to become Bonecrusher. And of course E Demolishor will be getting painted a very close green to these guys.

Looks great! My plan is to put two cranes as his arms, and carve slits for the tractors' claw hands where you have the new hands. I like the claws on the tractors better, but the cranes let you have a four-armed Devastator. The crane arms are not quite tight enough so I'll either see if I can tighten the joints, or just swap the crane on one side so that they're both on top, shored up by the cockpit arms below. Putting those claws on the cranes will leave him footless, but I'll come up with something for that.

I'm also planning on putting treads on one tractor to make a bulldozer. So far I haven't found anything the right size, but my plan is to get a solid tread and mount it in place of his shoulder/back wheels so they can rotate up as 'wings' in bot mode. There's a Tonka bulldozer that might work but I'm not sure about the size of it.

I'd love to hear more about your face swap, because I wouldn't even know where to begin. Did you start with another head or did you scratch-build it? I've got a WST Devastator coming in the mail, and I hope the head is the right size for a swap. (I actually plan to build some articulation into WST Dev, but if the head size is right I'd buy another.)

Nope I didn't start with another head I stayed with the existing head, and carved it down to what I wanted. Then built it back out to how it should be. As for treads I'm going to use a set from the Energon tank limbs. I'm going to have some extra left over treads if you are interested.
